Downtown Hanson Family Construction Delayed Again

As Phoenix continues to grow, so do our options for amazing craft beer and cocktails. In 2022, many exciting new concepts are scheduled to open their doors and further add to our dilemma of where to go for a drink.

Some of these bars and breweries were supposed to open in 2021, but due to construction delays and staff shortages, they've pushed out their openings to 2022. Others have ambitious plans to build a new project from the ground up before we celebrate New Year's Eve again.

Downtown Phoenix is a hub of activity and has attracted lots of enticing new concepts. The West Valley is finally getting some new craft beer options and one beloved spot is set to reopen after a long closure.

These are the bars and breweries we simply cannot wait to visit when their doors open in 2022.

Breadfruit and Rum Bar

While not technically a new opening, Breadfruit and Rum Bar makes this list as an eagerly awaited re-opening. The downtown Phoenix restaurant and bar co-founded by chef Danielle Leoni and drinks expert Dwayne Allen, has been closed for months during the coronavirus pandemic.

Efforts instead shifted to lobbying for small business relief and independent restaurant support. But now, according to Allen, the restaurant is getting ready for a reboot.

Working around construction delays on a remodel, he hopes to reopen the award-winning spot early next year.

Ghost Donkey

At the Nevada location, Ghost Donkey is hidden behind a food court in the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas hotel and casino.

With the closest outpost in Las Vegas, Ghost Donkey is a destination worth traveling for. But soon, the hidden cantina-style bar will be coming to us here in Phoenix.

Ghost Donkey originally opened to sling mezcal and tequila in New York City, later expanding to Denver, Las Vegas and Auckland, New Zealand.

The Phoenix location is one of three concepts coming to a development downtown, along with sister concepts Palma and Châm Pang Lanes, which are set to take over the building on Second Street that was under construction to become Punch Bowl Social.

The pandemic halted those plans, but opened the opportunity for this world class agave bar to comet to town. Ghost Donkey Phoenix has not yet released an opening date, but is currently hiring staff.

"I want to make cocktails that represent me a little more," Chheng told The Arizona Republic.  "I'm happy to play with ingredients that are lesser-known and bring them to the forefront."

Khla is set to move into the small cocktail bar on Portland Street that housed Alias for less than a year. According to Chheng, the new concept should open in early 2022.

O.H.S.O. Brewery Surprise

O.H.S.O. Brewery's fall seasonal is Another Pumpkin Porter.

Fans of craft beer in the West Valley are finally getting a location of O.H.S.O. Brewery. The popular brewpub has locations dotted all over the Valley and Surprise is next.

The brewery will offer everything customers love about O.H.S.O. from the beer and food to a large, dog friendly patio. This new brewery will move into the Village at Prasada development, which is currently under construction at the Loop 303 and Waddell Road.

If construction goes as planned, O.H.S.O. is scheduled to open in late 2022 or early 2023.

Roses by the Stairs

The bright yellow building on McDowell Road that used to house Easley's Fun Shop is hard to miss. Soon, this space will transform into a new neighborhood brewery.

Roses by the Stairs Brewing, which yes, is named after the Blink 182 song, plans to bring craft beer made with local and sustainable ingredients to Phoenix. The business also plans to donate a percentage of sales to eco-friendly and community efforts.

While progress paused due to construction delays and the addition of a new family member, co-owner Jordan Ham hopes to welcome his first customers in January 2022.

Sake Haus

Downtown Tempe restaurateur Julian Wright is slowly taking over downtown Phoenix. He owns the popular bar Luckys Indoor Outdoor and his Tempe brewery Pedal Haus just opened a location at the MonOrchid Building on Roosevelt Row.

He has another plan in the works at the same building. The front corner of the MonOrchid, which previously held The Dressing Room, will soon become Sake Haus.

The small restaurant and bar will serve sushi, small bites and a selection of craft cocktails. The Sake Haus website describes it as having a "Tokyo street vibe" with a wide selection of sakes and Japanese whisky.

According to Wright's latest estimate, the bar should open in early February 2022.

The restaurant has since been replaced by Neighborly Public House, a modern steakhouse that opened in December. Upstairs, owner Christopher Collins plans to add windows to celebrate views of Camelback Mountain and serve small bites, shareable appetizers and "fun and funky" cocktails.

The bar, which Collins hopes will become a new neighborhood hangout and gathering space, is set to open in early 2022.
